Rising Singer Subhi releases pop EP “Define Me”

After achieving critical acclaim in India with her unique blend of Hindi folk and jazz, she’s shedding previous conceptions of her art and embracing moody pop ballads and glittering electronics. For the five songs that comprise “Define Me”, Subhi enlisted a talented cast of producers to build out her heartfelt compositions, infusing them with a late night dance floor energy and widescreen synth flourishes that are sure to have you in your feelings.

Check out the titular song below:

“With this EP release, I feel liberated,” Subhi said. “Being an Indian-American, I have always had this inner conflict of where I belong. For years, I resisted releasing my English songs. This past year I realized that I need to be true to who I am and let the world see me. This EP tells the story of my evolution as an artist and an individual – I finally woke up, got out of my own way, endured rejections and in this process defined who I am.”

After immigrating to the US from India at the age of 16, Subhi found herself working on Wall Street. Unfulfilled and adrift, an internship with Oscar-nominated filmmaker Mira Nair helped her to realize her true passion was to make music, a desire that had been slowly burning since growing up in New Delhi and listening to her grandfather recite his favorite poems every evening. Early on she discovered that her delivery and cadence lent itself to the rhythms of jazz, and teamed up with local musicians in Chicago to make her debut album, “Shaitaan Dil (Naughty Heart),” which was co-presented by The Jazz Institute of Chicago.

Though her blend of storytelling and intricate jazz compositions brought her plenty of accolades, and a growing fan base back in India, her latest foray sees her diving headfirst into the sounds of contemporary American pop. Across her new EP, she investigates her identity as an Indian American, flexing her years of songwriting to make her most moving work yet.

LA River Bend Release Feel Good Love Song

Americana/folk band LA River Bend has released its new single “Summer Wind” off its upcoming EP intended to be a feel-good love song. Check out the song below:

LA River Bend is a four-piece band made up of Nate Weiner (vocals, guitar), Emily Elkin (cello, vocals), Branden Stroup (bass, vocals, guitar) and Jacob Seldes (drums) and have honored traditions of Americana folk by building the walls of their epic soundscapes, embracing the dynamics and ultimately developing an aesthetic unique to their own.

Their latest single “Summer Wind” features three-part harmonies, driving drum beats and catchy Californian melodies built upon intricate guitar embellishments, indie-folk facets and poetically pop melodies. The fast paced, toe-tapping anthemic chorus is highlighted by the band’s approach of exploring the new sounds that could only be found in the So Cal environment.

The band began life as backing Weiner’s solo album, “Ride The Sun,” where the group spent time rehearsing and touring up and down the West Coast. After spending hours recording and mixing tracks for this project, with longtime friend Stroup and the addition of Elkin’s string arrangements, LA River Bend was born. With the introduction of their now signature three-part harmonies and Seldes on percussion, the new and improved band mastered their authentically rustic, yet beautifully atmospheric sound.

“The addition of Seldes to the band is immeasurable, because I think our sound would have been less dimensional without his style of drumming,” Weiner said.

LA River Bend’s upcoming EP entitled “Run These Hills” is a collection of relaxing, vivid, nature themed music, bringing a contemporary and fresh approach to the indie folk genre and was entirely self-recorded by Stroup. Mastered by Grammy award-winning Eric Boulanger (Eric Clapton, Iggy Pop, Green Day), the EP is focused thematically on the symbolism of nature-based imagery and the tracks depict a serene feeling reaching emotional depths.

“The calming influence of nature in LA has been a huge musical inspiration to us,” Weiner said.

“Rock ‘N’ Roll Forever” Showcases Radio Wolf’s Talents

Canadian/British electro-rock outfit Radio Wolf will release its highly anticipated debut four-track EP “Rock ‘N’ Roll Forever” on Oct. 31. Check out the video for the track “Song on the Radio” here:

Radio Wolf is the creation of songwriter, musician and producer Oliver Blair. His original electronic rock outfit, Kindle, transformed his music into a visual experience complete with cyberpunk burlesque dancers.  After building a name for himself by touring and collaborating with UK artists including Ladytron, Sohodolls, Client, Hotel Motel and Kelli Ali, as well as performing at the legendary Notting Hill Arts Club, electro-pop band Client quickly signed him to their independent record label, Loser Friendly. His all-instrumental first album was then released, simply titled “Kindle.”

As Radio Wolf, Oliver has written and produced retro-future rock songs with guest vocalists as collaborators, Marika Gauci (Hotel Motel), Sarah Blackwood (Client/Dubstar), Kelli Ali (Sneaker Pimps) and Holly Dodson (Parallels). The sound is a unique fusion of electronic music and rock ’n’ roll, with a distinct retro-futuristic edge. The songs are crafted with lyrical and melodic power, combining uncanny rock guitar hooks, lush electronics, and distinctive vocal delivery.

Emily Curtis’ New Single “Battleshade”

Charleston SC based musician, Emily Curtis has released her new soul pop single “Battleshade” off her upcoming EP titled “Hindsight” coming out Nov. 10. Check out the single here:

The video, directed by Chris Viera, scenes flash between the many sides that comprise a woman: insecurity, comparison, liberation, frustration, confidence and beauty. The lyrics in “Battleshade” is a rallying call for all women who have dealt with discrimination and was written by Curtis as a response to her own insecurities about pursuing music. She said, “Remember me. Say you will. I’ll leave a mark. It won’t fade. It’s such a bold statement to make about yourself, but singing those phrases does something in me that makes me feel brave.”
