Song of the Week: Matt Megrue – “Afterglow”

Charleston, SC songwriter Matt Megrue is releasing new music that blends punk, Americana and 80s pop into one blend. Check out his track “Afterglow” from his new album “The Mourner’s Manual.”

Megrue has fronted the Atlanta pop-punk outfit, The Unusual Suspects, to the indie rock stylings of Loners Society. Now with his first LP, he describes it as an experience where you think less and feel more emotions, ranging from loss, love, anger and hope.

“Afterglow” reminded us of a band like The Killers with its upbeat synth pop wave style and introspective lyrics that take multiple listens to fully immerse oneself in. Megrue has a calming voice that amps up with excitement as the song flows through with its optimism and nostalgia driven narrative.

If you’re in South Carolina, be sure to check out Matt Megrue on the road on select dates from March 6 to May 18:
