The William Shakes have released a new video for the song “Leaden Messengers” off their debut EP “How Goes the Night.” Check out the clean performance on their video here:
The new music video for “Leaden Messengers,” the second single of their “How Goes the Night?” EP. The song is based on the words of Helena, the protagonist of Shakespeare’s “All’s Well That Ends Well” and explores the feeling of wanting to profess your love for someone, but not being able to find the right words; words are the metaphorical leaden messengers.
The EP continues The William Shakes concept where Mark McGettrick takes bits and pieces of words and puts them together resulting in often haphazard phrases. Mark applies the following process: select the character, isolate their lines, randomize their lines, curate into new lyrics, and compose an original melody. He does throughout the EP, which explores these five Shakespearean characters: Banquo (MacBeth), Helena (All’s Well That Ends Well), Horatio (Hamlet), Cordelia (King Lear), and Cassius (Julius Caesar).
All the songs on The William Shakes debut EP are self-composed and produced by Mark who performs on guitar, bass VI, bass, percussion, and vocals. The songs were originally conceived as an acoustic project for the February 2016 RPM Challenge (the challenge required participants to record 10 songs or 35 minutes of original material during the month of February). McGettrick added a full band to his tracks resulting in the current final product. It features musical collaborations with New York, Boston, and Los Angeles artists Carrie Ingber, Rob Sistare, Matt Diekmann, and Jason Dunn.
Beyond The William Shakes, Mark McGettrick is a staple artist in Boston’s thriving music scene. Most recently, he was featured playing drums and backing vocals on The Luxury’s 2015 album Bones and Beaten Heart. He has also performed with Seven Sunless Days, Sugarshaped, Chromavoid, and Fade.
